Christianity had profound affect on the people and Donegal in particular is littered with dedications to one of Ireland's patron saints, Colmcille, a native of royal decent. His influence and later that of the historical Clann O'Donnell, have carved out the shape and history of many generations on the entire island of Ireland, some of which can be still be assessed today.
